A WORD FROM OUR VICE-PRESIDENT
I hope everyone enjoyed his or her summer.
Many changes have taken place with your Board. Our President, Mike Santos’ time has been extended in Afghanistan. He will not return until April 2011. DeVata Davis has agreed to step up as President. I have placed my home on the market for sale. According to the revised by-laws I should be removed by the board however, the revision is currently written improperly. That provision violates North Carolina State Law. Our attorney, Adam Beaudoin brought that to the board’s attention. Your new board will have to address that and re-write that section of the revised by-laws. Our attorney, Mr. Adam Beaudoin, Ward and Smith is well versed on North Carolina Association law. I will do everything I can to bring the new President up to date. I will remain Vice President until the election in November. I will submit my resignation at that time. Jason Tooman, the Treasurer has accepted an overseas position and the board have granted him a six (6) month leave of absence. Ray Evans has stepped up to fill in for Jason while he is overseas. Minutes will be posted on the website shortly.
I believe the board has made many sound business decisions with the assistance of Sheri Mayes. Sheri and her staff (Century 21 Advantage Gold Realty Company) have the knowledge and business training necessary to help your board run an association properly.
The upscale-gated complex has begun at the corner of Gum Branch Road and Williamsburg Parkway. The drawings presented to City Council were very attractive. City Council has promised that a traffic signal will be functioning before a Certificate of Occupancy will be granted to the developer. The developer will not be permitted to have anyone occupy the complex until that signal is functioning. The traffic signal will be a benefit for our community.
Traffic Engineering is still working to create a better traffic pattern at the intersection of Gum Branch Road and Western Extension (they call our side of the extension Western Parkway). I have repeatedly requested a left turn signal from Gum Branch Road onto Western Extension. I spoke with Katie Heite on September 17th and she indicated that a turn arrow is in the works for the Gum Branch, Western Parkway. I did remind her of the fatality that occurred at that intersection last month. She also indicated that the traffic signal for Gum Branch Road and Williamsburg Parkway is in the works.
I had not intended to return to Florida when I ran for the Board. We do love this community. Our ties in Florida have been pulling us back. I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you for permitting me to serve as your vice president.
If anyone is interested in serving the community on your board, please send your name in to the management company by e-mailing the directors.
Thanks and God bless you.
Kathleen Buhr, Vice President
Williamsburg Plantation Homeowners Association
